Document Authentication for Use Abroad

Foreign authorities will not accept Indian documents at face value. For the 120+ countries in the Hague Apostille Convention (including the USA, UK, Australia, Germany and France) an Apostille from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is sufficient. For non-member countries such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait, documents must instead go through Embassy or Consulate Legalization after MEA attestation.

The Authentication Chain

Every document must first be authenticated by the designated authority of the issuing State before the MEA will act on it. This is where most delays occur, because the route depends on the document type:
